Getting Started

To run MITgcm you need to:

have a suitable computer and compiler,
download the code,
try to compile and run an example by following the steps on the left - the links will take you to appropriate parts of the documentation.

To help you configure your own experimental set-up, we provide you with 'documented examples' which can be adapted to your particular scenario. They are:

Barotropic Gyre in Cartesian coordinates
Baroclinic Gyre in Spherical coord
4 x 4 global ocean simulation
Sensitivities using adjoint ocean model

Further examples are being documented and will be posted here as they become available.

There are also some atmospheric configurations as well as more simplified setups available for testing certain aspects of the model such as parameterizations and diagnostics. They are not yet fully documented but test code is available.
